EasyLink Introduces Web Services Integration Tools

Next-generation Application Programming Interface (API) Gives Corporate Customers, Independent Software Developers and Solutions Providers Convenient Access to EasyLink's Transaction Management Services

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Aug 11, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- EasyLink Services Corporation, (NASDAQ: EASY), a leading global provider of services that power the exchange of information between enterprises and their customers, today announced the introduction of its next generation integration tools. The tools offer an application programming interface (API) incorporating the latest standards for Internet-based application integration. These standards, generally referred to as Web Services, use Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Extensible Markup Language (XML) and have emerged as a favored approach among corporations, independent software developers, and solution providers building communications- and transaction-oriented applications. Web Services are endorsed by major software companies including Microsoft and IBM. The goal of the EasyLink Web Services API is to increase the overall number of customer and partner applications using EasyLink's services.

The EasyLink Web Services API allows external applications to access two key capabilities of EasyLink's global network: sending transactions and tracking message disposition, and provisioning accounts and service features. By following the instructions set forth with the API, developers are able to introduce the capabilities of EasyLink's Production Messaging or Integrated Desktop Messaging Services to a wide range of systems, solutions, and applications that they control.

A number of EasyLink's corporate customers have been the first adopters of the EasyLink Web Services API and demonstrate the range of possibilities it enables. One of the world's largest financial institutions is linking Human Resource applications to EasyLink's account provisioning system via the API to ensure all new employees in various departments are automatically set up with Easylink's Email-to-Fax and Fax-to-Email services. A major insurance company is submitting contract and proof of insurance documents from its back-end systems via the API for delivery by EasyLink's network. A secure messaging solutions provider is using the API to fax-enable desktop software for HIPAA-compliant secure message delivery.

Gary MacPhee, EasyLink's CTO and Executive Vice President of Transaction Management Services commented: "The development community has fully embraced open standards including the use of Web Services for application integration. Our introduction of a Web Services API demonstrates EasyLink's commitment to open standards and, perhaps more importantly, our commitment to providing enterprise customers and independent software developers with easy to use programmatic interfaces to our services to drive new levels of business process automation."
